Principal's Message

Dear Gulf Families,

Welcome back to the start of another exciting school year at Gulf Avenue Elementary School!  I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable summer break.  As we step into this new academic year, I am filled with anticipation and enthusiasm for the opportunities and experiences that lie ahead for our students.

At Gulf, we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where every student can thrive. Our dedicated teachers and staff are here to ensure that each child receives a high-quality education and is encouraged to reach their fullest potential. This year Gulf will continue to focus on discussion techniques and student participation to ensure all students share their thinking. We will be intentional and focused on honoring individual variation in learning styles and meeting the students where they are to accelerate achievement and ask themselves:

  • What am I learning today?
  • Why am I learning it?
  • How will I know I learned it?

As we begin this school year, I encourage you to stay involved and engaged in your child's education. First, your child’s ATTENDANCE is one of our top priorities.  We cannot teach empty seats.  In 2017-2018, Gulf had a 13% Chronic absence rate.  This past year, in 2023-2024, Gulf had a 27% chronic absence rate. WE CAN DO BETTER!  Let’s get back to 13% this year! Second, YOUR PARTICIPATION and SUPPORT are vital to our success.  Communication is key to a successful school experience, and I encourage you to communicate with your child’s teacher via class dojo beginning the first week of school.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. Let's make this year a memorable and successful one for our entire Gulf Avenue community.
